Afternoon in White
Our signature fundraiser, An Afternoon In White, raises money for our scholarship, STEM, Teen Leadership Conference as well as other ongoing programs. Last year’s event in 2017 was no exception. It was held at the gorgeous Taglyan Complex. Over 350 guests, resplendent in white, gathered to take photos at the step and repeat, and were treated to the sounds of Reggie “Vision” Alexander at the reception while tasting delicious hors d’oeuvres and libations.
Upon entering the venue, The Gents, a troupe of dancers “stepped” and set the tone for the day. Eleven outstanding students were awarded scholarships. In addition, five individuals, stalwarts in their communities were honored during our Crown Awards: Barbara Perkins, President’s Award; Gene Hale, Corporate Service Award; Brenda Shockley, Community Service/Economic Development Award; Earl “Skip” Cooper, Small Business Leadership Award; and Sheryl L. Spiller, Public Service Award.
We’re known for having one of the best parties in Los Angeles and this event was no exception. One of our scholarship recipients, Eiress Wicks performed, and an alumni of our scholarship program, Garry Baynes, showed off his tap dancing skills. DJ Reg kept the music flowing, comedian Edwonda White had us laughing and Masta, the Edge of Soul had us on the dance floor.
This event has proven to be a cultural jewel and a must-have ticket for those who want to party with a purpose.
We’re not holding this event in 2018 as we are celebrating our 60th Anniversary! Take a look at the details and get your ticket today!
